Refund/Billing Policy

Latest Update October 11, 2026

1. Overview

This policy explains how billing, cancellations, revisions and refunds work for RainCheck deal diligence engagements. It supplements our Terms of Service. If there is a conflict, the signed or confirmed Order controls first, then this policy, then the Terms.

2. Fees and Invoicing

Fees are quoted per engagement and fixed in your Order before we invoice. Unless the Order says otherwise:

  • Invoicing

    • For engagements with a fee of $6,000 or less, we invoice 100% of the fee when we confirm your Order.
    • For larger engagements, we invoice 50% when we confirm your Order and the remaining 50% when the report is final.
    • Engagements under a separate Ongoing Coverage Order are billed as that Order states.
  • Payment and delivery

    • Full-fee invoices and deposit invoices are due on receipt. Work begins when we receive payment.
    • Balance invoices are due on receipt. We release the report once the balance is paid.
    • Turnaround estimates run from the later of the date we receive payment and the date we receive complete materials.
    • For clients with a prior paid engagement, an Order may allow us to release the report on delivery and invoice the balance on Net 30 terms.
  • General

    • Fees are in U.S. dollars and exclude taxes, which you are responsible for.
    • Every invoice states its due date.
    • Scope changes that affect the fee are confirmed in writing before we proceed.

3. Payment Methods

We accept ACH transfer, wire transfer and major credit cards. Card and online payments are processed by third-party payment providers. We do not store full credit card numbers on our servers. Card payments may carry a processing fee.

4. Late Payments

If an invoice is not paid by its due date, we may charge interest of 1.5% per month on the overdue balance, or the maximum allowed by law if lower. We may pause work on any open engagement until the account is current.

5. Revisions

If a report contains a factual error, or you give us missing materials within 7 days of delivery, we will make one round of corrections at no charge. Requests for new or expanded scope are handled as a new Order.

6. Cancellation and Refunds

You may cancel an engagement by written notice to us. What you owe depends on how far the work has progressed.

  • When work begins. Work begins when we start reviewing your deal materials. We will not start until we have confirmed your Order and received any deposit. Until then, no work has begun.

  • Stages of work.

    • Intake and scope review: we are checking your materials and confirming scope.
    • Analysis: we are building the report from your materials.
    • Draft complete: the report is drafted and in final review, and has not yet been delivered.
Situation What Happens
You cancel within 2 business days of your Order, and work has not begun
Full refund of fees paid, less non-recoverable third-party costs.
You cancel after that window, and work has not begun
Refund of fees paid, less non-recoverable third-party costs.
You cancel during intake and scope review or analysis
You owe 20 % of the fee. We refund the rest.
You cancel after the draft is complete but before delivery
You owe 50% of the fee. We refund the rest.
We stop the engagement (for example, the materials are insufficient, we find a conflict of interest, or the deal raises a legal concern)
You owe the intake-stage amount. We refund fees for work not performed, less non-recoverable third-party costs.
The report has been delivered
Fees are earned in full and are non-refundable. Corrections under Section 5 remain available for 7 days after delivery.

With any partial refund, we will send a short written summary of the work completed.

Non-recoverable third-party costs are costs we have paid and cannot get back, such as payment-processing fees and any data or records we purchased for your engagement.

Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method within 10 business days.

7. Billing Disputes

If you believe an invoice is wrong, email us within 14 days of the invoice date with the invoice number and a description of the issue. We will respond within 5 business days and work with you in good faith to resolve it. You may withhold only the amount genuinely in dispute while we review it.

8. Beta, Pilot and Self-Serve Plans

Beta and pilot access is provided on the terms we give you when we invite you, and is free unless we tell you otherwise in writing. RainCheck's self-serve subscription and pay-as-you-go plans are not currently offered. If we relaunch them, their billing terms, including credit and renewal rules, will be posted on this page.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the "Latest update" date. Updates apply to new Orders. An Order already accepted stays under the policy in effect when it was accepted, unless you agree otherwise.
